Attachment theory, developed by John Bowlby in the 1950s, is a psychological model that explains how people form and maintain personal relationships. The primary component of attachment theory is that humans need secure attachments to other people for healthy psychosocial development (Fonagy et al., 2004). Attachment styles refer to the different ways in which individuals respond to their need for human connection.
