What features of emotional intelligence does Nurse Ratched portray? What features does the Nurse lack?

The nurse archetype portrayed in films and television that I have chosen is Nurse Ratched from the 1975 film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Nurse Ratched is a stern, unyielding figure whose primary focus is maintaining order at all costs while ensuring patient safety (Kesey, 1975). Despite her hard-edged exterior, Nurse Ratched has several features of emotional intelligence which are evident throughout the movie. She demonstrates empathy towards her patients by understanding their situations and trying to help them through difficult times with patience and kindness (Kesey, 1975). She also exhibits self-awareness when she takes responsibility for her mistakes instead of deflecting blame onto others (Kesey, 1975). Finally, she displays an impressive level of self-regulation when faced with challenging or emotionally charged situations (Kesey, 1975).
