Quantitative research is a form of inquiry that uses structured data and analysis to measure current conditions or study trends for the purpose of understanding and predicting future outcomes. It enables researchers to evaluate, compare, and contrast different approaches, make predictions about an entire population from a subset of data points, identify correlations between variables, and track changes over time (Lapointe et al., 2017). In comparison to other research methods such as qualitative research designs which are more exploratory and less structured in nature (Svensson & Dennison, 2018), quantitative methods provide much greater precision when measuring change. This can be particularly beneficial when researching areas related to quality improvement as it allows for more accurate measurement of success or failure.
