Explain the interdependency of genetics, genomics, and ethics on nursing care.

Genetics, genomics, and ethics all play an important role in the care of nursing patients. Genetics and genomics are intertwined because they are both concerned with the study of genes and their effects on individuals’ health outcomes (Rao & Patel, 2017). The ethical considerations surrounding these areas of science involve balancing patient autonomy with public safety while safeguarding individual rights (Meaningful Use Workgroup, 2016). In order to provide quality care for nursing patients, healthcare professionals must have a basic understanding of genetics and genomics as well as the ethical implications that arise from using this knowledge base to deliver treatments or make decisions about a patient’s care.
