Explain how implicit biases and discrimination could be a factor and how we, as health professionals can break this cycle of unequal treatment.

Implicit biases and discrimination are deeply rooted social issues that have plagued our society for centuries. Discrimination is defined as the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, based upon their race, religion, national origin, gender identity or sexual orientation (Uddin & Stangor, 2016). Meanwhile implicit bias refers to unconscious attitudes and stereotypes toward certain groups that may lead one to behave in a certain way without actively realizing it (Klauer et al., 2019). The health care system has historically been known for perpetuating these forms of prejudice.
