Examine how awareness of learning styles has influenced your perceptions of teaching and learning.

Learning styles are the different ways of how individuals perceive, interpret, and then process new information (Lunenburg & Ornstein, 2011). Certain learning styles may be more advantageous for certain activities such as studying or classroom instruction. One commonly known type of learning style is visual – learner’s who benefit from visually seeing information presented in graphs or diagrams to understand a concept better. Another popularly known example is auditory learning – those who comprehend best by hearing the teacher lecture in class or listening to audio recordings. By being aware of our own particular kind of learning style and those of our peers, we can better assess which method will be most effective when it comes to teaching and learning initiatives.
