Evidence-based practice (EBP) is the foundation for all interventions in the healthcare. According to Duke University Medical Center, EBP can be defined as “the integration of clinical expertise, patient values and the best research evidence into the decision-making process for patient care” (Melnyk, B, 2018). Per Melnyk (2018), EBP is the key to improving patient experiences, improving population health outcomes, decreasing healthcare cost, and improve working life for providers.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, that focuses on research to create significant improvements. (National Institutes of Health, n.d.c). This department has around 27 other centers that focuses on other disease and illnesses. The NIH (n.d.c) has four goals:

To promote discoveries and research strategies
To create resources for the public
To increase medical and science awareness, and
To increase scientific integrity and social responsibility in the conduct of science.
