Discuss why it is important for Advanced Nurse Practitioners to identify health problems that affect your community and/or in your clinical setting

As Advanced Nurse Practitioners, it is important for us to identify health problems that affect our communities and/or clinical settings. This is because the more informed we are about the health issues facing our patients, the better we can provide appropriate care for them. Additionally, by understanding the factors contributing to these health problems in our community and/or setting, we can identify potential interventions that could address underlying root causes (Kurz et al., 2018).

When identifying health problems in a given population or setting, there are several approaches which can be used. The first is descriptive epidemiology which involves gathering data on both existing and emerging trends in order to gain an understanding of patterns of disease occurrence within a given area. This type of analysis can help Advanced Nurse Practitioners determine where interventions should be focused (Rothman & Greenland 1998).

The second approach is analytical epidemiology which involves looking at specific risk factors such as access to healthcare or socio-economic status in order to understand why certain populations are more likely to experience particular diseases than others (Blair et al., 2016).
