Servant leadership is an important tool for nurses to use in order to create a positive work environment where both patient and staff needs are met. This type of leadership style focuses on the idea that leaders should be focused on the development of their team, helping them grow and develop into better employees. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of listening and understanding individual team members’ needs while providing support throughout all levels of care (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2019). By integrating these tenets into nursing professional practice, nurses can become more effective leaders who empower those around them while simultaneously increasing collaboration and trust within their teams.
Discuss how nursing professionals can benefit from integrating the tenets of servant leadership to empower and influence others as they lead.
One way servant leadership can help nursing professionals is by encouraging collaboration among team members regardless of rank or title (O’Brien et al., 2020). When utilizing this type of leadership style, nurses will be expected to listen closely to what others have to say and value everyone’s opinion before making decisions regarding patient care or any other issues within their workplace. This not only shows respect towards each individual but also encourages open dialogue which can lead to innovative solutions being discovered through constructive debate rather than one person imposing his or her own views upon the whole group (Eldredge et al., 2017). By embracing this approach nurse practitioners can foster a sense of unity among their colleagues which will ultimately improve communication between all parties involved .
Furthermore ,servant-leadership has been found useful in promoting self empowerment amongst workers especially during times when change might occur either due organizational restructuring ,transitioning from traditional models etc . This empowerment comes from increased level participation through creating strong supportive relationships with peers ,better job satisfaction due greater autonomy given by leader as well ability provide input during decision making process(Shelley & Hilliard 2009 ). When nurse practitioners utilize this method they are essentially giving back control over situation staff thus helping instill confidence motivate individuals reach desired goals . Through such approach nurses can strengthen hold not only organization but also community providing efficient services patients need at same time having contented workforce handle these duties efficiently.
