Applied social psychology is a field of psychology that focuses on applying scientific methods and insights to solve social problems. It combines the fields of psychological theory and research with other disciplines, including sociology, anthropology, communications, economics, education, medicine and public administration. Applied social psychologists study people in their natural settings (such as families or workplaces) to understand how they interact with each other and their environment. The goal of applied social psychology is to create solutions for real-world problems by using evidence-based strategies that are grounded in empirical research (Kuo & Harwood 2018).
