The World Health Organization’s (WHO) global health agenda is intended to provide comprehensive guidance for the various countries around the world to address their own health-related issues. As part of this effort, the WHO has identified several key areas that need to be addressed in order to achieve global health goals. One such area is infectious diseases, which are a major source of morbidity and mortality globally. In response to this challenge, US national or federal health policies have been developed with an emphasis on prevention and control measures such as vaccination programs and education campaigns (Kirp & Wilson, 2011).

In the United States, national public health efforts are largely driven by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which provides leadership in developing effective strategies for preventing and controlling infectious diseases. The CDC works closely with local governments as well as state agencies to ensure implementation of public health policies at all levels. Vaccination requirements and other preventive measures are set by federal legislation, while individual states can also implement additional laws related to disease control. For example, some states may require greater restrictions on certain types of vaccinations or mandate additional vaccinations beyond those mandated at a national level (Centers for Disease Control & Prevention [CDC], 2021).
