Are added sugars ‘bad’ for you?

The answer to this question is not a simple yes or no. While added sugars are considered to be “empty calories” with little nutritional value, there is debate as to whether they can have a negative impact on your health. On one hand, some studies have suggested that consuming too much added sugar can lead to weight gain and an increased risk of developing diabetes, heart disease and other chronic conditions (Gibson & Solomon , 2020).

On the other hand, some experts argue that added sugars in moderate amounts do not pose any significant risk. In fact, it has been suggested that these sugars may provide pleasure and satisfaction which could potentially lead to improved mental wellbeing ( Gibson &Solomon ,2020 ).

Therefore when it comes determining if added sugars are bad for you need take into account individual’s personal health circumstances as well lifestyle habits . Furthermore important practice moderation when consuming foods high in sugar opt for healthier alternatives like fresh fruits vegetables whenever possible.( Gibson &Solomon ,2020 )
