The nucleus is considered to be one of the most important organs inside the cells (Gesteland & Cech, 2007). It serves as the control center for all cellular activities due to its location at the center of a cell. The nucleus contains genetic material known as DNA which holds instructions for making proteins and other substances necessary for life (Lodish et al., 2000). Not only does it regulate gene expression but also controls activities such as growth, metabolism and reproduction.
Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is another type of organelle found within animal cells (Cheng et al., 2019). This membrane-bound structure consists of two subtypes: rough endoplasmic reticulum and smooth endoplasmic reticulum. Rough ER produces proteins while smooth ER is responsible for lipid synthesis, calcium storage and drug detoxification (Lodish et al., 2000).
